Yankees 懷疑 Red Sox 能夠從 Contreras 的投球動作判斷出他會投什麼東西，所以 Mel Stottlemyre 在上次 Contreras 被 Red Sox 修理之後在試著矯正他的投球動作。由於 Red Sox 的打者對他的表現實在太好，跟其他球隊完全不同，而且是從去年到今年持續下來。考慮 Contreras 的 stuff 和 Posada/Flaherty 的配球能力，似乎不應該這麼誇張。

在今天 Times 的 Tyler Kepner 的報導 "Contreras Adjusts Delivery to Find Solution to Red Sox" 中，他引述了 Joe Torre 的說法：

"That's what we're suspecting," Manager Joe Torre said. "We're not rock-iron sure, but sometimes in this game, when they're taking close pitches and hitting good pitches, that makes you suspect something."

如果 Red Sox 真的看出其他球隊看不出的東西來，那麼是要向他們脫帽致敬的。明天在 Yankee Stadium 三連戰的第一戰，成敗的關鍵應該就在於 Contreras 面對 Red Sox 打者的表現。Stottlemyre 不願意說他對 Contreras 做了什麼調整：

"He's changed a couple of things," Stottlemyre said. "I'm not going to tell you what they are, but you'll probably see them. We're trying to eliminate some things. We're trying to eliminate their getting pitches, which we think they've done before. He feels really good right now about himself."

不過看他的說法，即使 Red Sox 並不是真正看出了什麼東西，而只是單純的持續打爆 Contreras，這些 Stottlemyre 對他做的調整起碼可以在明天一開始的時候對建立 Contreras 的信心有幫助。有些時候投手需要的只是一些信心，同樣的 stuff 在不同的心理狀態下有時真的會有不同的結果。

Yogi Berra 的名言："Baseball is 90% mental, the other half is physical."

這句話的前半段常被引述，當後半段也拿出來時通常是用來開 Yogi 玩笑的。Yankees 如果今年要想贏得什麼東西，Contreras 必須要有表現。

Moose 今天又吃下一敗。他的 fastball 球速還是沒有回來，同時 location 也控制的不夠好，最起碼以他的標準來講不好。現在他應該是差不多從春訓的狀況中出來了，所以如果他還持續這種表現，有可能今年都無法回復，或至少要很晚才能夠找回他自己的水準。不過往好處看，他是個很聰明的人，今天在後面幾局他也慢慢適應在他僅有的 stuff 之下如何最有效的表現。他可以這樣贏一些球賽，只要打擊捧場一點，勝敗記錄倒也不會像現在這樣那麼難看。我仍然不認為現在已經是時候認定他不行了，不過我已經開始覺得這跟 Contreras 一樣是個需要密切觀察的問題。
